Tis the season to be bombarded by gift guides, and this one is for the gals. Sometimes shopping for the opposite sex can be tricky, but hopefully this roundup of stuff will help with that. And don’t forget about gifting experiences if she seems to already have everything.

Gap Factory CashSoft Hoodie – $34.99 and Ribbed Sweater Pants – $28

A very cozy set for winter mornings spent lounging with coffee or tea and a good book (see a few recommendations below).

Square Crystal Stud Earrings – $38

Bright blue studs that’ll carry her right through all the gatherings of winter and into the blue skies of spring and summer. Comes in three colors. Sold via Nordstrom.

TheraGun Therabody Relief Handheld Percussion Massage Gun – $110 ($160)

TheraGuns are so great for soothing sore muscles. This version (the Relief) is gentler than the regular TheraGun, providing a more relaxing percussive massage. (Regular TheraGuns, while amazing, can also be pretty painful.) Available in four colors.

Midnight Garden Earrings – $75

If she’s into Luna moths, she’ll probably love these. These feminine earrings are handmade of sterling silver, crystal, & niobium. (Click the link or photo to see what they look like on someone.)

The Gym People (Amazon) Half Zip Pullover Fleece Stand Collar Crop Sweatshirt – $24.99+

Lots of color options from Amazon, and the price is dependent on the color. If you’d like to gift something that’s probably a step up in quality, Rhone offers a very similar half-zip, although it’s almost 5x the price.

Radley Pockets Mini Ziptop Crossbody – $94 ($188)

A uniquely styled crossbody that’s perfect for the gal that loves fashion. Also available with silver hardware, or in pink or ivory. Sold by Radley London.

Portal Outdoors Protable Heated Rocking Camp Chair – $110 ($130)

For fans of the great outdoors, and cold weather recreation. A nice way to heat up a cold tookus.

Paper Desk Pets – $14

Also available in Highland Cows. For when she needs a break from work, but wants to keep her mind busy with a fun task. Plus she can pass them out as little gifts if she likes.

Ostrich Pillow Heatbag – $60

This versatile tool can be used for soothing heat or therapeutic cool wherever needed. Good for treating lower abdominal cramps, or even tucking into the bottom of a cold bed for some foot warming action. May not be the “funnest” gift, but there is definite utility with this pick.

Fringe Blanket Scarf – $29.50

That scarf puts off all sorts of cozy vibes. Available in 11 different color/pattern combos. Sold by Nordstrom.

The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon Paperback – $11.99

Inspired by the life and diary of Martha Ballard, an 18th century midwife and healer. “The Frozen River is a thrilling, tense, and tender story about a remarkable woman who left an unparalleled legacy yet remains nearly forgotten to this day.” Put your cozies on and get ready for a good read.

Crock-Pot 20-Ounce Electric Lunch Box – $39.99

Especially handy during soup season. A nice way to avoid the typically over-crusted and scary work microwave. Can heat up any meal at her desk while she works away.

Nordstrom V-Neck and Crewneck Wool/Cashmere Sweaters – $169

Wool and cashmere for toasty soft warmth. Available in multiple colors, and ships and returns for free from Nordstrom. Was on sale for $99 during all the Black Friday / Cyber Monday hubbub. Maybe they’ll get marked down once again before Christmas?

Plush Velvet Travel Jewelry Case – $14+

You choose the initial. This is a convenient size for travel. Easy to stuff into a backpack, and also nice and compact for longer trips. Would make a good stocking stuffer or wrapped gift under the tree.

David Yurman Petite Cable Linked Hoop Necklace – $395

Getting up in price here, but that happens with designer jewelry. A lovely example of different metals and patterns coming together to create a unique piece.

Good Dirt by Charmaine Wilkerson Hardcover – $17.80

A national bestseller, in Good Dirt “the daughter of an affluent Black family pieces together the connection between a childhood tragedy and a beloved heirloom.” With a whole lot of story in-between.

Candle Warmer Lamp with Timer – $20

Does she leave a room with candles burning? It’ll likely be fine, but just in case, this is a handy way to get all the scent out of a favorite candle without lighting it. If that particular lamp isn’t her style, you can find a plethora of styles on Amazon.

Salad Pod – $25

For the health warriors out there. A very convenient way to pack up a salad and dressing, without making the salad soggy from the dressing before she’s ready to dig in.

Year of Guided Watercolor Painting Desk Calendar – $34

A way to ensure that each month she stretches her creativity a little bit.

Something from the Huckberry Gift Guide For Her

Because Huckberry typically deals in quality stuff which looks cool. If you’re not finding something in this guide we wrote here on Dappered, perhaps you’ll find something in theirs?

The 2025 Valentine’s Day Gift Guide for Her https://dappered.com/2025/01/the-2025-valentines-day-gift-guide-for-her/ Mon, 27 Jan 2025 22:00:00 +0000 https://dappered.com/?p=266119 Heads up: Buying via our links results in us getting a commission (not always, but just about), which helps keep the lights on around here. We also take your privacy rights seriously. Head here to learn more.

NOTE: We’re running this a little earlier this year as there are a few suggestions from smaller shops (often on etsy) which might have extended shipping timelines. Better a week-or-so early than a day late.

Love is in the air, everywhere I look around.

Amiright? And even though Valentine’s Day is a holiday created specifically to sell commercial stuff, it can be a good reminder that love, is in fact, in the air every single day. We need it, we crave it, and it helps us thrive as humans. So, this Valentine’s Day, take a deep breath, let go of all the biases for a second or two, and let love step forward to have some time in the sun. Because, after all, love just feels good.

Now, onto the commercial stuff to show your valentine just how much you love them!

Dylan Rae Gold Heart Necklace – $47.20+

The price of this necklace will change depending on the length of chain. Larger pendants are seeing a moment right now, so if she’s usually on trend, this should work well in her jewelry lineup. If she prefers something a bit smaller, and is more of a silver girl, here’s another option that’s also more affordable.

Frisky Kitty Tube Vase – $47.95

Fun and unique, put a few flower stems in this sweet vase and gift if to the gal who loves cats. This fun, quirky style should delight.

Craftmix Variety Pack Skinny Cocktail Mixers – $14.99

Word on the street is that these mixes make both delicious cocktails and mocktails. If she imbibes in the hard stuff, maybe give her a few mini bottles of the booze required for each mix. If you know that fruity drinks aren’t her thing, there are other varieties to pick from through the link.

Weighted Emotional Support Sloth – $64

This may look like a kids toy, but it’s actually a wellness device designed to help alleviate stress and anxiety. Filled with nontoxic glass beads, this 4.5 pound plushie can be laid across the chest to encourage a calming sensation when needed. And as chaotic as the world feels right now, anything to help instill a sense of calm is appreciated.

Stanley The Camp Pour Over Set – $45

If she’s got a Stanley tumbler, and she loves coffee, she’ll probably love this. Also a great gift for the girl who has a lot of outdoor adventures.

Vivo Minimalist Custom Birthstone Bracelet – $24.50

A dainty bracelet is a simple, pretty gift. This one can be customized by birthstone, initial engraving, and metal (gold, silver, or rose gold). You can even have both side of the disc engraved if desired. (Maybe one side your initial, one side hers?)

Chocolate For All Your Needs – $35

Dark chocolate infused with various herbs and amino acids to assist with different states we humans deal with. There’s a bar for aches and pains, one for stress, even a bar for sleep. Five different issues are addressed… via chocolate. This might be her kind of therapy.

Julia Szendrei “Diamond” Huggie Earrings – $58

Huggies (not the diapers) are popular. So is gold, neutral tones, and matte shine. Baguette cut cubic zirconias are simple and chic. These are good for all day wear, and can easily go from casual to dressed up.

Foliata Glass Sprouting Kit – $23.99

At the start of the year, health and wellness is on the minds of many a gal (and guy). If she’s set a goal to eat more nutritious food, home-grown sprouts are an easy way to consume nutrients in a small bundle.  For a fancier option, The Sprouting Company makes a futuristic looking sprouting doodad (technical term), and offers seed subscriptions.

Lindsey Collared Knit Pajamas – $24.97

Pretty floral pajamas at a very nice price. Polyester, so they’re not going to be the warmest, but spring is right around the corner. Sold by Nordstrom Rack.

The Essential Air Fryer Cookbook for Two – $11.05

Your valentine needs to have an air fryer in order for this to be a successful gift. And if she does, this could be a fun way to surprise her with an in-home evening. Have a recipe chosen and the ingredients ready before you wrap the gift and give it to her. Then make her the dinner you chose. Although air fryers are really easy to use, there is some common sense involved so you don’t completely overcook and dry out the food you’re making. Just follow the instructions and you’ll be good.

Grounds & Hounds Sweatshirt – $44.99 & Coffee – $16.99

Or sweatshirt and hot chocolate, whichever she prefers. The star of this show is that sweatshirt, which any dog lover can appreciate. Grounds and Hounds gives 20% of profits to animal rescue organizations to support dogs between homes. They have a lot of other great coffee/dog themed gifts to peruse.

Dandelion Amber Crystal Light- $78

A quite pretty objet d’art, and that’s appropriate seeing as it’s sold by the San Francisco MOMA store. The 3-D engraved dandelion design lights up with a soft glow at the touch of the brass button up front, and there are three light levels. The base contains a rechargeable battery that will keep the light on for up to 16 hours.

V03P Petite Watch: Black + Gold – $199

One other item from the SF MOMA store. You can also source this watch directly from VOID, but it will ship from Sweden, and you won’t get those shipping charges refunded if the watch is returned. This unisex watch is sized well for a woman’s wrist. The details about the watch listed on the MOMA site don’t seem to be right for this particular version of the V03P, so best to get those specs directly from VOID.

The Life Cycle of the Common Octopus – $26

In her debut novel, Emma Knight sets her story in Scotland. The main character is attending the University of Edinburgh, and is invited to the estate of an old family friend for the weekend. Determined to figure out a secret her parents aren’t telling her, she is also falling in love for the first time. Lots of good reviews for this one.

Obvious State Print (frame not included) – $28

These striking prints incorporate quotes from famous authors like Pablo Neruda, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Jane Austen. These prints don’t come framed, so be prepared to pick one up locally or order one from Amazon.

Teabloom Flowering Tea – $19.95

A spin on gifting flowers. As these tea pods soak in hot water, they unfurl and bloom. The tea itself is a jasmine green tea. If you do want to give this, consider also giving her a glass teapot so she can watch the show.

Grow Your Zone Seed Bank Gift Set – $60

For the gardener who’s dreaming of her garden as soon as the new year starts. This will keep her busy planning for a bounty come warm weather. These boxes are curated with seeds for specific growing zones. Includes 32 organic seed varieties.

lululemon Lunar New Year InvisiWear Mid-Rise Bikini 3 Pack – $48

Lunar New Year colors just so happen to align with the colors of Valentine’s Day. lululemon has some products released for the Lunar New Year, including these underwear. Non returnable (because it’s underwear) so only gift this to the gal whose size you definitely know. If you (or she) is a lululemon member, they can be returned for store credit. These are designed to be virtually seamless under leggings, and for use during yoga.

Garden Party Blue Tech Organizer – $36.22

So many are still working a hybrid schedule, toting work machines and phones, and the cords that accompany it all, back and forth. This pretty organizer from Rifle Paper Co will keep all those plugs and cords and whatever else organized.

Vosges Exotic Truffle Collection – $50

There’s the chocolate you can get at the grocery store, and then there’s artisan chocolate that takes it above and beyond. This truffle collection from Vosges Haut-Chocolat features ingredients like absinthe, olive oil, and “soft burnt sugar caramel”, among many others. If she’s not that adventurous they offer more traditional collections.

Canopy Rituals Aroma Kit – $40

Essential oils are a natural way to scent your space (and yourself). This brand and scents seem to be quite popular on Sephora, with the comments saying this is a nice variety of clean scents. If you’ve noticed a diffuser in her space, this will be a welcome gift.

Kate Spade Boxed Madison Heart Studs Card Holder – $49

Made of Saffiano leather, this card case will be a reminder of your affection every time she uses it. Card cases can be handy to keep a few cards at the ready to grab out of her purse when needed. Or, as it is for men, to tuck into a pocket, or alongside a phone in a small crossbody bag.

A Bouquet from Farmgirl Flowers – prices vary

Farmgirl Flowers bouquet

For the gardener or nature lover do not underestimate flowers. They are incredible pieces of art from nature, and arranged well they can make a stunning and delightful gift. Remember, flowers are not cliche to people who love flowers.

Last week we recognized the Best Affordable Style of 2024, focusing on the top products pumped out by the retail establishment. This week we’re taking a look back at the best (at least what WE consider the best) of what Dappered had to offer last year. Not trying to toot our own horn here. Consider this more of an exercise in recognizing what was popular with the Dappered readers, so we continue to create informative and useful posts in the New Year. And by the way, to you the Dappered readers: thanks.

How To Wear a Blazer with Jeans – 4 Style Scenarios

This is as close as you’re going to get to a “Dappered” uniform. And this Style Scenario put it together four ways: Sharp, Casual, Smart Casual, and a Nothing Over $100. Each offered it’s own take on combining a navy blazer/sportcoat with denim in order to create an intentional look.

Style Scenario: It’s really cold

For a lot of the country right now, it IS really cold. It’s winter. It’s supposed to be cold. And dressing appropriately for the cold weather can make it bearable. But dressing both appropriately and stylishly can get tough in frigid temps, but not impossible. Good looking tailored layers, and enough insulation on your hands and feet, can make all the difference.

Style Scenarios: Fighting the Winter Doldrums

Once the holidays have passed, waiting the winter out can get kind of rough for some of us. Harsh weather and gray skies can zap energy. But one antidote to the doldrums is mustering some sartorial determination. And dressing well can, even if fleeting, create a window of the feel goods. That’s what this scenario hoped to do, offering three looks from casual to dressed up. Expect this one to roll around back again in the coming weeks, as we hit the 2025 doldrums.

Wedding Season Style Scenarios

Perhaps worth a bookmark for later on this year? (We’ll also reboot them, as we do every year.) Dressing for warm weather weddings can be tough, because you want to be comfortable, while still respecting the occasion. That’s what these three scenarios are for. Varying from a casual, put together look, to dressing for a wedding that might cost the couple as much or close to a car. Weddings are a significant milestone in peoples lives where they usually get to dictate the level of dress for the occasion. You can show your respect by dressing accordingly. (Top Photo by Carlo Buttinoni on Unsplash)

Style Scenario: Groundhog Day

Based one of the best movies out there, this Style Scenario took it’s cues from the look of meteorologist Phil Connors, the main character from the 1993 hit Groundhog Day. Putting this post together is also an excuse to revel in the absurdity and profundity of this film.

Seasonal Series

That first day of spring. Or that day it really feels like Summer is hitting. Or that terrific day when the light and air changes and it feels like fall. Multiple style scenarios for each seasonal transition are covered, scaling up from casual to smart casual to dressed up.

Style Scenario: Brunch

Could brunch be the perfect meal? You’ve got breakfast foods. You’ve got lunch foods. There’s no judgement if you have alcohol before noon. But if you don’t drink, coffee and juice are perfectly acceptable. So hey, why not dedicate a few style scenarios to one of the best meal concoctions of all time?

Style Scenario: The Well Dressed Rainy Fall Day

When it’s miserable outside, a few subtle shifts in your ensemble can enable you to still look sharp while being prepared for the weather. This scenario created a layered look with some practical pieces incorporated to handle the splishes and the splashes.

Style Scenario: MilSurp Colors, Smart Casual Civvy Style

We’ll just let an excerpt from the post sum it up: MilSurp: Military Surplus. Colors and shades would include greens, grays, browns and beiges. Civvy: “Civilian.” Or in this case, a pretty proven formula of a sharp sportcoat, polo, trousers, and chukkas. It’s the combination that got used quite a bit in 2020’s Christopher Nolan Film, TENET, and looks both modern and timeless. It’s also comfortable. You don’t even have to tuck a shirt in.

Chinos, Chukkas, Polo

A different take on the Style Scenario, this series started up in 2017 and has been going strong ever since. The very first CCP (8 years ago!) was inspired by a look in the “Quantum of Solace” Bond film. Since then we’ve had many iterations of this simple but effective ensemble.

Style Scenario: Last Days of Summer

Sometimes you just have to create a Style Scenario to go along with the photo you took of the sad sea monster inflatable cast away in your neighbor’s trash can. But this was also created as a final reminder to enjoy the waning summer days, as fall was fast approaching. A casual, preppy look that incorporated versatile pieces that could go from pool side to grabbing a brew at a casual bar.

Style Scenario: Late Summer Super Sharp

Lighter and brighter colors gave a nod to the season that still was, while richer browns foretold of the season just around the corner. This look was put together as a suggestion to keep it sharp when everyone else is giving up in the final heat of summer.

Style Scenario: Watching your Bracket get Busted

Published in March around a time when the annual “shooty hoops extravaganza” was underway, this was a fun and casual look for hanging out with friends while grabbing some beverages and making some friendly wagers. It also contained a suggestion on how to not be a loser when entering into friendly wagers. Don’t be that guy.

Style Scenario(s): Football Championship Watch Party

While we’re still waiting to see which teams will inspire the next Football Championship look, you might recall that last years participants inspired a lot of red (or approximate shades of). And while one of those teams is out for this next matchup, another’s hopes are still alive and well. We’ll know soon enough who, and which color, will reign supreme.

There were more Style Scenarios in 2024 than the ones mentioned above. For a full archive, click here.

In Review: The Seiko Prospex Speedtimer Solar Chronograph

Seemingly inspired by the Newman Daytona, this quartz offering from Seiko was mighty impressive in hand. Aesthetics are certainly retro inspired but it also has a sharp, modern look to it as well.  The case size is a more heritage leaning 39mm in diameter, but it wears larger than a true retro piece. Its 13.3mm thickness and very slightly domed crystal deliver some wrist presence without being bulbous. And the 20mm lug width means it won’t be hard finding leather straps if you so choose. When fully charged, the Speedtimer can run at +/- 15 seconds per month for six months if tossed in a shoebox, forgotten in a closet, or left under a hibernating yeti. To get all the details, head over to the review.

In Review: The Timex Marlin Jet Automatic Watch

The Timex Marlin Jet straddles the awkward line between dress and smart-casual.  The design is undoubtedly clean, with an icy light silver dial, simple hands and indices, and crisp font for the branding. The case-back is an exhibition style so you can see the movement at work. The lugs are an odd but not totally unusual 19mm wide, the case clocks in at 38mm. A good competitor to the Orient Bambino 38mm. Which speaking of…

In Review: The Orient Bambino 38mm Automatic Dress Watch

Smaller, better, and more refined than it’s 41.5mm big Bambino brothers, the Orient Bambino 38mm could be the best bang-for-the-buck automatic/mechanical dress watch on the market. Movement is an in-house automatic which hacks and hand winds. Case-back has an exhibition window so you can see those mechanical guts at work. Much nicer leather strap than the past larger versions of the Bambino. This sized down version will be just right for a lot of guys.

In Review: VAER D5 Meridian USA Automatic Dive Watch

A watch that has an immense amount going for it. The overall feel is some sort of blend of Submariner and Planet Ocean. Where the VAER really sets itself apart from other <$1000 watches is in terms of its versatility. All stock straps and even the bracelet options come with quick release pins. When combined with its simple black and white color scheme, you can easily bounce this thing back and forth between fabric straps, tropic rubber, a metal bracelet, or even leather. If you’re intrigued, check out the review for all the details.

In Review: J.Crew’s Ludlow Legacy Blazer in Italian Wool

A high quality, modern slim fit navy blazer. That’s what the Ludlow Legacy blazer is. Designed to be a go-to garment that lasts. Constructed from nice Italian wool fabric, and it skips the shiny brass buttons found on navy blazers of years past. The lighter weight of the fabric makes it appropriate for year round use. Of course, we’ll continue to keep our eye out for sales at J. Crew that drop this foundational blazer in price.

In Review: The Lorier Hydra GMT Automatic 41mm Dive Watch

Usually when a watch (or anything else) tries to be all things to all people all at the same time, you end up with something that looks like the car Homer Simpson designed. But the Hydra is the opposite. It’s complex but it’s truly classy. It’s cool and it’s versatile. It could be the one watch many pick up and wear with everything, everywhere. From a suit and tie to a big event, to swim trunks and flippy floppies at the beach.

In Review: Orient Bambino 38mm V2 Small Seconds Automatic Dress Watch

Gotta hand it to Orient. Their design catalog is so vast that they can take two previous models, combine their styles, and size it down to an of-the-moment diameter, and they end up with one of the best affordable automatic/mechanical wristwatch releases in years. The Roman numerals make it look dressy and classic. The blue hands make it quietly pop. The small-seconds dial makes it interesting. And the slightly sized down, 38.4mm diameter should make it wearable by the vast majority.

In Review: The Timex Deepwater Reef 200 41mm Quartz Watch

The new Deepwater Reef line from Timex has to be the most exciting debut Timex has released in a while. The classic sporty style, not-obnoxious bracelet, and quick-release pins for easy strap changes all combine for a hugely versatile watch you can wear almost anywhere. It’s a hell of an evolution for the brand, which has come a long way from the dirt-cheap Easy-Readers and Ironman Digitals of the 90’s and early aughts.

In Review: Old Navy Tech Chino Shorts

This past summer, did lululemom meet its match in an unlikely challenger? Not quite the same, but boy did Old Navy release a short (and later 5-pocket trouser) that for all intents and purposes gave the much more expensive lulu warpstreme ABC shorts a run for their money. If the fabric isn’t identical, like at an atomic level/made by the exact same supplier, then it’s one of the best copies/”homages” ever. There’s no gusseted crotch on the ON shorts, but at less than half the price of the ABC’s, most guys will be ok with that.

In Review: Hamilton Field Khaki Quartz Watch

Every now and then Adam strays out of his shoe closet and reviews something a little different for him. This was one of those times. But this watch from Hamilton was put through the same vigorous scale that Adam subjects the shoes to. And this field watch from Hamilton earned the coveted 5 stars that most footwear reviewed by Adam never ascend to. Find out why here.

In Review: The Nodus Contrail GMT Automatic

We are living in a golden age of moderately pricedhigh quality, go-anywhere/do anything “adventure” watches equipped with GMT movements to appease post-pandemic wanderlust, and juiced up with enough toughness to thrive through anything one could throw at it… while globe-trotting, desk day-dreaming or anything in-between. The Nodus Contrail GMT series is the latest to knock that particular horological cover off the ball, all while having enough uniqueness that it’s not just “another” GMT-Diver hybrid.

In Review: The Timex Marlin Automatic 40mm Dress Watch

Exceedingly pleasant, the Timex Marlin Automatic will find its fans. 40mm in diameter with a mid-century inspired dial, the Marlin Automatic is a moderately sized “big brother” to the positively doll-like 34mm hand-wind original. The Marlin Automatic 40mm anchors what has quickly become one of the most important lines in the Timex catalog. Or to put it another way, it’s the head of the class for that particular school of horological “fish.”

In Review: The J. Crew Factory Thompson Wool Blend Navy Blazer

Turns out big brother J. Crew isn’t the only one who can make a quality navy blazer. The wool-blend fabric, accessible fit template, and timeless style details make for a sound and versatile foundation piece. And this blazer can be had for a lot less, especially with the right sale. Also, can we just take a moment to acknowledge the absurdity of Joe being out on the streets, jumping around with an umbrella? The things he does for you, dear reader. (Editor’s note: It’s never not embarrassing getting the “what are you doing?” question from someone passing by.)

In Review: The Poly & Bark Verity Lounge Chair

And after all that jumping, your friendly neighborhood affordable men’s style website editor needed to sit down. The Verity Lounge Chair is a good option for those looking for a quality, attractive leather chair at a reasonable price. It’ll be especially good for smaller spaces, but can easily compliment a furniture arrangement in a larger room. Not recommended for graveled areas between garages.

In Review: The Nike Killshot Premium vs. the Original Nike Killshot 2

Inspired by an upgrade Nike made to their very popular Killshot sneaker, our shoe expert Adam took it upon himself to compare this upgraded version to the original Killshot. The price difference was negligible at fifteen bucks, but still… were the upgraded materials worth the increased price? In the end, it really came down to user preference. If you’re curious on the details, give the review a read. And it also serves as a very in-depth review of the oft-mentioned and constantly being reinterpreted by Nike OG #memesneaker Killshot 2.

In Review: Allen Edmonds Park Avenue Cap-Toe Oxfords

If you’ve been reading this site for any length of time you know that Allen Edmonds is mentioned often. The company was founded in 1922 in Wisconsin, and has maintained a reputation throughout the years that has kept it atop the men’s dress shoe pile. So in 2024 Adam reviewed one of AE’s core offerings to investigate if the well-earned reputation is still deserved. With a final score of 4.25 out of 5 (on the highly scientific and accurate A.R.S.E. scale), it seems like Allen Edmonds still knows what they’re doing after all these years.

In Review: Astorflex Brownflex Chukkas from Huckberry

Where is the value in a shoe review? Sometimes it’s advice on comfort. Other times it can be on construction. Or it might be that the color shown online by the retailer is nowhere near the color of the shoe in real life. That was, and we’re assuming still is the case for the Astorflex Brownflex chukka sold by Huckberry. As you can see above, Adam lined them up against brown leaning suedes to show that the “Stone Suede” version of these boots is in fact a true grey that can even lean into the cooler shades of green, rather than warmer shades of brown.

In Review: Grant Stone Horsebit Loafers in Suede

You don’t often see bling on footwear on this site, but the horsebit loafer is iconic, so Adam decided to take these dressier loafers from Grant Stone out of the stable for a lap around the review track. And as with most Grant Stone footwear, these thoroughly impressed Adam, earning full marks for materials, construction, and comfort. If you’re looking for a dressier spring loafer, these might be the ones.

Are Meermin shoes any good? – In Review: Meermin Cap Toe Oxfords

Black oxfords are a must for a rounded out wardrobe, and this past October Adam got these sub $200 oxfords by Meermin in hand to put them to the test. Turns out that Adam was highly impressed by the materials and construction, but also thought that there would be a longer break-in window needed due to the rigidity of the leather. He still found them to be a solid value for what Meermin charges for them… as long as you can get your sizing right.

In Review: lululemon Cityverse Sneakers

Lululemon’s pants, and some of their outerwear, get a lot of love around these parts. But this was the first time we’ve paid any attention to their footwear. Although they didn’t have the best fit for Adam’s feet, he nonetheless was intrigued by their use of modern materials, and enjoyed how comfortable they were right out of the box (his personal sizing issues aside).

In Review: Brooks Brothers Chukka Boots (Suede)

If you’ve ever shopped Brooks Brothers you know they typically demand a premium for their products, but they can do that because of their heritage. So Adam decided to get a pair of their boots in hand to see if they were truly worth the premium price. As far as looks go? Yes. But Adam is a shoe hound and knows how to sniff out the details that point to corners being cut, and it turns out that was the case with these handsome chukkas. But below a certain price (when on sale), Adam concluded that they could be well worth it. One just has to play the waiting game for a significant discount.

In Review: Bass Logan Suede Weejuns Loafers

This is THE shoe that G.H. Bass is known for. Well, not this particular iteration. But in 1936 Bass introduced the first penny loafer to the world, and their popularity has ebbed and flowed since then. These unlined suede versions received fairly high marks from Adam. With a more relaxed take on the iconic Weejun, the comfortable slip-ons are easy wearing. The color just ended up being weird. ROCKY TOP.

In Review: The Best Merino or Performance Fabric Boxer Briefs for Men

Yep, hard turn. But as mentioned, we’re also including “briefs” in this roundup of our best posts, and here’s the first type of brief. This review came to us by way of, wait for it… Adam our shoe expert. Turns out his favorite boxer briefs were discontinued a while back, and ever since Adam had been on the hunt for a worthy pair to take the mantle. So Adam field tested eight different pairs of boxer briefs from a variety of retailers to see if he could crown a new favorite. Find out if he did here.

In Review: The Maverick & Co Manhattan Deluxe Leather Briefcase

And now to the second type of brief. In early 2024 Joe (not Adam!) reviewed the lean and mean looking Maverick & Co Manhattan briefcase. (Reader beware of a multitude of Top Gun references.) With cross-hatched Saffiano leather, this slim briefcase has an interesting textured look that elevates it. Yet it quietly stands out. At the time the all black version reviewed was being sold through Nordstrom, but currently it looks like Nordy’s only has a black version with some red accents. Not to worry, as you can get the all black version directly from Maverick & Co.

Tis the season to be bombarded by gift guides, and this one is for the gals. We thought we’d get this years’ gift guide for the ladies out before Black Friday, so sales can be taken advantage of. Sometimes shopping for the opposite sex can be tricky, but hopefully this roundup of stuff will help with that. And don’t forget about gifting experiences if she seems to already have everything.

Hug Necklace – $90 to $100

Boston based jewelry artist Leesa Storfer created this abstract pendant necklace to represent the comfort of a hug. Sterling and 18k gold plating brings shine to this unique piece of jewelry. Comes in silver, gold, and mixed metal.

Nordstrom Crewneck Cashmere Sweater – $59.97

Sold by the Rack side of Nordstrom, thus the more palatable price. Lots of colors available, along with a couple striped options. Since it’s sold by Rack, shipping is only free after you hit an $89 threshold. And returns are $9.95 for shipping, unless you can return it back to a brick and mortar Rack location. But hopefully she’ll love it and a return won’t be needed!

Buddha Board – $36.90

Part artistic expression, part mindfulness exercise, and part lesson in the Buddhist principle of detachment, the Buddha Board is a great gift for anyone that could use a tool to create a space to just creatively zone out. When the wet brush comes into contact with the board, dark brush strokes show up. But as soon as the board dries, the marks disappear. It doesn’t matter if you paint it perfectly, because it’ll be gone soon anyway. This’ll allow her to paint and doodle her stress away for a while.

Literature Every Day Interactive Mug – $28

Don’t be fooled by the two mugs in the above photo, the price is for one mug only. But what the photo shows is that on one side of the mug there is a QR code hidden in the design, and that QR code will reveal a new literary quote every day on her phone. Great for the reader that loves indulging in a warm beverage and good read.

Amazon Essentials Heavyweight Hooded Puffer Coat – $71

If your gift recipient is in need of a new winter coat, the affordability of Amazon’s Essentials line is hard to beat. Plus the quality is usually there. Many different colors to choose from, although they vary depending on the size needed. There’s also a metallic and a couple print options available over here.

Meenal Patel Studio Cook to Calm Print – $32 to $48

Minnesota based artist Meena Patel creates beautiful illustrations incorporating nature, human connection, and domestic living. This print depicts a relatable behavior for a lot of people, cooking to calm either ourselves, or others. Beautiful, bright pops of color mean it’ll be a standout on a kitchen wall. Price is just for the print, so if you want to frame it you’ll have to source that elsewhere. To see the artists other works, check out her Etsy shop at Meena Patel Studio.

Pasta Grannies Cookbook – $21.48 ($37.50)

Created from the content of the popular YouTube channel, Pasta Grannies brings together time-honored recipes from Italian nonnas, or grandmothers. In other words, these recipes come from women who could probably make pasta in their sleep. Price above reflects what the Amazon bots were listing at time of posting this gift guide.

Youth To The People Superberry Glow Dream Mask – $52

A little bit of luxury for her face. Highly reviewed, this vegan overnight cream brightens and plumps skin. Get this for the girl that loves skin care and cosmetics.

BR Cotton-Silk Crew Neck Sweater – $100

This sweater should feel like it’s a step above right out of the box, or bag (depending on what you wrap it in). Cotton and silk knit should feel soft and refined. Alternatively, there is the Cozy Pullover Sweater from BR Factory, if you’re looking to spend less. Both have an oversized, cozy vibe going on.

AslabCrew 2-Way Zipper Unisex Belt Bag – $12.98

For ladies with active lifestyles, belt bags can be super handy. They can be worn belt or crossbody style, and these little bags can usually hold a surprising amount. A bag like this is much more comfortable to carry than a regular purse when walking, and is a must for hiking if she wants to bring any EDC along. Comes in 10 different colors on Amazon, and you can’t argue with the price.

Sterling Silver Whale Tail Dainty Huggie Earrings – $31

Little whale tales adorn these dainty huggie (as if they’re giving an earlobe a hug) style earrings. Huggie style earrings are seeing a lot of popularity at the moment. Consider these for nature or marine life lovers.

Ess-A-Bagel New York Bagel Brunch Package for 6 – $99.95

Know a gal that likes hosting meals for friends? Gold Belly is a great way to gift meal experiences from around the country that she can make at home. This bagel brunch for 6 is from the family owned New York bakery Ess -A-Bagle (eat a bagel). And since there are fresh components in this meal kit, you can just send it as an e-gift so your gift recipient can order it when she’s ready to. There are a ton of fun options on Gold Belly.

Volo Hero Hair Towel – $44

Best for longer hair. This uber absorbent towel helps hair dry naturally at about twice the speed of just air drying. Also helps tame frizz. Gals seem to love this thing.

Londontown Illuminating Essentials Mini Concealer Set – $28

Although really saturated colors are popular right now in the world of manicures, many women prefer a more natural look when it comes to their nails, but they also don’t mind a bit of color. These particular polishes from Londontown are long lasting, and add just a bit of color and shine.

Wicked X Bombas Ankle Sock 4-Pack – $72

Put a little sparkle in her step, especially if she’s a fan of the Wicked musical. Looks like Bombas partnered up with the soon to be released movie version of the super popular Broadway hit. (When are we going to get some Hamilton socks?) And since we’re talking about Wicked…

The Wicked Series Box Set – $52.88

With the release of the new motion picture, the promotional machine is in full gear for the popularized version of this bewitching tale. But the original books that this story was sourced from are quite a bit different than the glamorized versions. They flip the script on the saccharine world of Oz, drawing from the true life darker aspects of humanity in order to create a world and story full of social and political injustice.

Sterling Silver Layering Necklace Set – $59+

There’a a lot of gold out there right now, yet a lot of women prefer silver. Or they like to mix metals. This layering set is simple, but the chains are distinct enough that they’re interesting. Sold by Etsy shop Megu’s Attic.

Songbird Tweets® Cupcakes – $26.99

If you have a bird lover in your life that also just doesn’t seem to need anything herself, I bet she’d really enjoy hanging these cupcakes in an area to attract and observe birds as they enjoy the feast. Formulated with the ideal nutrition for wintering birds.

CALIA Soft Scuba 1/4 Zip Pullover -$88

Sold by Dick’s Sporting Goods, this quarter zip for her can be used for athletic pursuits, but can also be worn in dressier ways as shown above. Available in 12 colors.

Primrosia Dual Tip Marker Pens and Skin Tones set – $47.99

If she likes drawing and illustrating, this pen set should be right up her alley. With dual tips, the wider marker tip can be used for larger strokes and watercoloring, while the fine tip can be used to add detail. 84 pens in all with this set.

Barbour Lady Jane Tartan Cuff Leather Gloves – $90

Fancier, more fashiony (not a word) gloves. The tartan cuffs add a little something extra to an otherwise plain pair of black leather gloves. Comes in small, medium, or large. Ships and returns for free through Nordstrom.

Hexagon Polymer Clay Earrings – $26

Customizable, so you can get the polymer clay portions of these earrings in a color that really compliments the gal you’re gifting to. These are sold by Alysa Nadeau Designs on Etsy (based in New York). Every single one of her shop product pages say that the items are low in stock and there’s only one left. Don’t let that discourage you from making the purchase. Pretty sure that’s a default setting.

Organic Bath Bombs Gift Set – $45

If the lady you’re gifting to is into self care and long baths, this’ll be sure to please. Essential oils fragrance these skin softening organic bath bombs. Scents vary between Eucalyptus, Lavender, and Lemongrass. Made in Livermore, California.

Self-Watering Galvanized Seed Starting Tray – $49.99

A sustainable way to get garden seedlings growing year after year. It’s also handy that it’s self watering, as missing a watering with seedlings can result in disaster. Sold through Gardener’s Supply Company.

Gorjana Wilder Alphabet Necklace – $68

This simple initial necklace is a little chunky, rather than delicate, as chunkier chains are in favor at the moment. Yet this isn’t SO chunky that it can’t withstand a change in trends. 18k gold plated brass, and has a 2″ extender, if the 16″ chain feels a bit too short for your gift recipient.

Snake-embossed Italian Patent Leather Belt – $59.50

J. Crew says “Belts are having a moment.” Ok then. Since belts are having a moment, this is a fun one to gift over the holidays. Snakeskin embossed. A deep, rich red that is very cold weather appropriate, but will also look great as a pop of color paired with lighter colors during warmer months. Know that this belt comes in multiple colors and leather patterns, including simple black and brown options.

The Dappered Space: Most Wanted Affordable Home Style September https://dappered.com/2024/09/the-dappered-space-most-wanted-affordable-home-style-september-2024/ Wed, 04 Sep 2024 15:00:32 +0000 https://dappered.com/?p=260450 Heads up: Buying via our links results in us getting a commission (not always, but just about), which helps keep the lights on around here. We also take your privacy rights seriously. Head here to learn more.

The Dappered Space is a series designed to help guys apply the sense of personal style they’ve developed to the space they inhabit. Watch for articles on furniture and decor sales & picks, advice on how to style a room or work space, and tackling creating a space that reflects your own (and perhaps a significant other’s) personal tastes. We’ll suggest items that can be sourced online, but always keep in mind that deals can be found at consignment and thrift stores, local stores with floor models, discount stores, and even yard sales.

Glitzhome Mid-Century Modern Hunter Green Armchair – $224 ($319.99)

This is an easy green to incorporate into many different decor styles. And the look of the chair can assimilate fairly easily as well. Tufted faux leather adds some character, and the width is 2.5 inches wider than the Verity Lounge Chair we reviewed not long ago. Of course it is a completely different chair, but if you were looking for something wider, this might do the trick.

OXO Good Grips Julienne Peeler – $9.99

I caught an episode of Milk Street on my local public television station a few weekends ago, and I’ve been drooling over this recipe for their Best Fried Egg Banh Mi ever since. It requires julienned veggies, and a julienne peeler is a quick way to make that happen. Bon appetit!

Snap Wellness Touchless Mist Sanitizer – $60 ($80)

Necessary? No. Cool none the less? Yes. Back to school. Back to office. With colder weather, thus cold season on the horizon, hand sanitizer is good to have on hand. And yes, you can get a cheap bottle of Purrell and that’ll take care of germs just as well as this. BUT, it won’t look as cool, feel as cool, and probably smell as good. On sale as part of Bespoke Post’s End of Season Sale. Fore more apparel related picks from the sale, click or tap here.

Lynwood Square Upholstered Cube Ottoman – $100

Taller ottomans can double as tables, as can be seen in the above photo. You can place two together to approximate the length of a coffee table, but then enjoy the flexibility of using them as ottomans when wanted. Ottomans are typically more comfortable to stretch your legs and feet out onto. This particular offering from Target has a masculine vibe with that dark brown stripe fabric (although it’s available in multiple fabric options). And you’d have to think it’ll go on sale at some point.

Turella Extra Long Console Table – $136.24 ($170.30)

This console table has a couple nice things going for it, aside from the price. The raised lips around three of the four table top edges not only adds some extra character, but provides some protection from items slipping off. If you click on the link and look at the product images, you’ll see examples of it set up like a desk or bar table with chairs. That’s another handy option, if you host movie nights or have a big family that could use extra table top area for work or play.

Nourison Grafix Persian Navy Blue 8’x10′ Area Rug – $71.08

Style and color on a dime. This high traffic area rug will add depth and richness to a room. The saturated navy blue and cream combo is elegant but also classic. Can be used in a light living space, or a darker office area. Either way, it’ll only add to the look. And you can’t beat the price for the size.

Set of 6 Spring Fluted Glass Bottles – $24.95

As we get back into weather that’s actually pleasant for outdoor dining, here’s a way to provide your backyard guests a bottle of water without creating plastic trash. At just over 4 bucks a bottle (before tax/shipping), it seems like an affordable and sustainable way to keep your guests hydrated, and their beverages bug free.

Solo Stove Mesa XL Tabletop Firepit – $80 ($110)

Another good item for the incoming outdoor weather. Add some ambiance and a little pocket of warmth on cool fall days or nights. Great for impromptu smores making, since you don’t have a build a big fire for a small task. Seems like kindling or pellets will work best for the size. Might also make a good gift for someone on your nice list this year? On sale through Huckberry.

In Review: The Poly & Bark Verity Lounge Chair https://dappered.com/2024/08/in-review-the-poly-bark-verity-lounge-chair/ Tue, 06 Aug 2024 21:00:06 +0000 https://dappered.com/?p=259484 Heads up: Buying via our links results in us getting a commission (not always, but just about), which helps keep the lights on around here. Poly & Bark Verity Lounge Chair in Cognac Tan Leather – $526 w/ CYBER ($657)

Pricing Note: At post time Amazon also has these, on sale for $524 for Prime members, as long as you check the little $75 off coupon box before checkout. No word on when that sale ends though, and they can swing around in price on Amazon by quite a bit.

Yes, you’ve seen this chair mentioned before on this site. It’s been mentioned enough times, in fact, that we thought it would be a good idea to get one in-house to test out in person. And by test out in person we mean lug around town to get some stylish shots so as to be worthy of the sartorial company of items featured here on Dappered. Note that you can get it at two places:

  1. Direct through Poly & Bark. They have multiple leather colors over there (Cognac, Cocoa Brown, Olive Brown, Navy Blue, and Black)
  2. Through Amazon. Just Cognac and Black available there though. But if you have Prime, it ships super fast.

Five available leather colors direct through Poly & Bark. (Amazon has just two.)

Sometimes ordering through Amazon is cheaper. Sometimes ordering through Poly & Bark is by far the better deal. It’s worth price checking each source before you consider buying.

This is an indoor accent chair. It’s not made for use outdoors.
But the lighting is just better out there, and the image is sufficiently absurd for Dappered.
Human shown is a thoroughly average 5’10″/185.

Construction

The frame of this chair, while very light (the entire chair weighs 26 pounds), seems very solidly constructed. The chair ships intact, no assembly needed, because that kiln-dried ash wood frame is fitted together without any visible hardware. The seams quietly come together, with the only clue being the grain of the wood moving in different directions. And there was only one visible spot where glue had seeped up from a joint on the underside of the chair. The wood itself is stained walnut, a common stain color that will be easy to repair should you get a scratch or gash in the frame. (These Minwax markers come in very handy for touching up stained wood furniture.)

Making our way around the chair: the top left shows how seamless the frame looks.
Top right shows glue that seeped from a joint.
Bottom left is a shot of one of the glides on the leg of the chair.
Bottom right shows off one of the curves of the frame.

The stitching on the leather cushion covers seems durable. A nice thick matching thread was used to stitch the panels of leather together. The covers themselves are removeable, allowing for cushion replacement, or easier leather repair if needed. It doesn’t seem like the task of getting the cushions out would be easy, but at least you have the option to cross that bridge when and if it comes to it.

Thick, color-matched thread was used to stitch the cushion covers together.

Another interesting feature on this chair is the way the bottom cushion fastens to the frame. It uses a carabiner style latch system (rather than the typical snaps). I don’t know if this is easier to manufacture, but it looks kind of cool. But herein lies the one details that lacks the finesse of the rest of the chair. The bottom straps of leather that house the rings for the carabiner attachment are stapled into the chair. This isn’t visible unless you’re looking under the chair, and this is probably one of the safest ways to attach the leather to the wood without splitting it, but it doesn’t look the prettiest.

The one area lacking finesse on this chair, but seeing as it’s located under the frame and no one will see it, it’s not that big of a deal.

Quality

Back to the frame of this chair, as mentioned before it’s constructed of kiln-dried ash wood. Ash is one of the best woods for furniture. It’s lightweight but hard, making it strong and durable. It also has an attractive grain, which when stained, adds a lot of beauty to a finished product. And there are lots of well thought out and intentional curves on this frame. They add to both the functionality (curved out armrests where elbows land) and beauty of the furniture.

Curvy, flared out arm rests create a little more space for resting elbows.

This chair, depending on the color you choose, will feature a pure or semi-aniline dyed full grain leather. The cognac, cocoa brown, and olivine green versions of this chair feature pure aniline. This is typically associated with a higher quality leather, but it also makes it more susceptible to scratches and stains. If you have a busy household with young kiddos, the semi-aniline versions of this chair could be a better choice, but you’d have to settle on black or blue leather (which also hold their own appeal). Here’s a quick explanation on the difference between pure and semi-aniline leather.

The curved frame and backrest slats add to the craftsmen appeal of this chair.
The seat cushion has a carabiner latching system to keep is securely fastened to the frame.

Rather than having just a few, thicker back slats, the rear part of the frame features several handsome slats that add to the look of the chair. This ensures that the chair looks decorative and craftsmen from any angle.

Comfort

I wouldn’t call this chair “cozy,” but it is definitely comfortable. The cushioning feels just right. It’s supportive, but has a pleasant amount of give. The cushions are made of high density foam. The Poly & Bark website claims that the seat has a feather down topper, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with the chair I received. Pretty sure there’s just a layer of polyester upholstery batting on top of the foam, but it’s still comfortable.

The chair features a 105 degree angle to the seat, encouraging correct posture. At 21″ deep, the seat is a comfortable depth for supporting the upper legs without cutting off your hamstrings or feeling awkward against the back of your knees. And while this chair is definitely lower to the ground, that ergonomic angle makes the height feel appropriate.

The wood armrests aren’t going to be able to match the cushy armrests of overstuffed recliners, but boy do they look better. And they are comfortable. As mentioned before, because the wood is flared out, there is enough surface area to comfortably rest your elbows. And hey, we’re not talking about a chair made for napping away the afternoon.

Go ahead, park your butt.

One final thing to note about the chair is the size. It’s fairly compact, and will fit well into smaller spaces. It boasts a lot of depth, but at only 31″ tall and 25″ wide, it’s on the smaller side. It’s plenty big enough to accommodate many body types, but if you like your furniture on the larger side, be warned.

Final Thoughts

The Verity Lounge Chair is a good option for those looking for a quality, attractive leather chair at a reasonable price. It’ll be especially good for smaller spaces, but can easily compliment a furniture arrangement in a larger room. The laid back style of the chair encourages relaxation while maintaining good looks. The pure aniline leather of the cognac tan version may not be the best for households with the potential for rough and tumble use, unless you want to create a lasting story through dings and “patina.” All in all, when this chair goes on sale, it’s well worth the price.

Outopee Folding Camp Chair – $37.98

As “dappered” looking of a camp chair as you’re likely to get. Can definitely be used for camping, but would also be nice to have on hand for backyard get-togethers. The frame is actually aluminum with a wood grain look, but because of that the chair itself weighs only 5 pounds, but can hold up to 220 lbs. Sold by Lowes.

Palma 60″ Arched Console Table – $350

New to Target. Incorporates straight lines, corners, and curves. Kind of has a Federal, or Neoclassical design vibe. Console tables work great against a wall, or along the back of a couch that’s open to a room. Full price at the moment, but it shouldn’t be too long before Target includes it in a sale.

YAMAZAKI Home Rin Magnetic Key & Tray Organizer – $29

The designers at Yamazaki Home like to keep things simple and clean, and this smaller key and mail holder is no exception. Use the magnetic back to stick it to a fridge, filing cabinet, or metal door. Or use the included screws to mount it to a wall (next to a door is a handy spot). Available in either black/brown or white/beige.

SAFAVIEH Antiquity Collection 2’x8′ Runner Rug – $68.61

Rugs with an antiquated pattern can add a lot to a room, as long as there aren’t other patterns that will clash. And runner size rugs are great for placement in either hallways, or just a spot where the typical rectangular rug won’t work. This option from popular rug brand Safavieh is hand tufted from wool, and is also available in a rich red color scheme if that works better for your place.

Sterling & Noble 16″ Mid Century Modern Wall Clock – $23.58

A quick and affordable way to add a rich accent to a wall. Requires a AA battery to operate, which is included with purchase. Would look great in a wall grouping with a few other decorative accents.

Gibson Elite Gelston Stoneware Service for 4 Dinnerware Set – $79.99

This set comes with Four 10.25-inch dinner plates, four 8.5-inch dessert plates, four 8.5-inch dinner bowls, and four 21oz cereal bowls. These are stoneware, so won’t be the lightest weight. But with good care they should last a while. Has that grey and brown combo that tends to be quite complimentary in style.

JUYSON Toilet Paper Holder with Shelf – $20.99

Let’s just admit where we are now, phones come in the bathroom with us. And if you don’t have an accessible shelf or counter in reach when the moment arrives that you need both hands free, it’s getting set on the floor. This is an easy way to avoid that, while also having a handy compartment to store things in, like flushable wipes, or feminine products for the gals.

Yard Butler Rocket Weeder – $53.96

Can pulling weeds actually be fun? The Yard Butler Weed Rocket is probably going to be the closest you’ll get to answering yes to that question. It’s not the best for pulling up small weeds (it can, but it’ll remove a big plug of dirt with the weed), but for dandelions, thistle, and other weeds that have multiplied in size seemingly overnight, this tool can be super satisfying to use to tackle those weeds. Plus it’s used in a standing position, so can be easier on sore backs.

MilSurp: Military Surplus. Colors and shades would include greens, grays, browns and beiges. Civvy: “Civilian.”  We’re going to base this particular styled room off of Style Scenario: MilSurp Colors, Smart Casual Civvy Style. Neutral colors based on surplus military gear were considered. And the Civvy style was pulled straight out of a Christopher Nolan movie. It’s a good looking combo.

In this styled room we’re using this color scheme and clean style to create an outdoor living space that looks sharp and modern, while injecting just a little bit of lighter color to brighten things up. Also, as far as pulling in the green from the pants, we’ll just let nature carry most of that load (since this is an outdoor setup, after all).

The Side Table/Cooler Hybrid: Veradek Outdoor Cooler Side Table – $119.99. This stone/plastic (real stone mixed in) composite table has a nifty second function; it’s also a cooler. And the way the lid glides open, rather than flips open, means you don’t have to move what’s set on top in order to get inside. Very highly reviewed on Amazon.

The Outdoor Sofa: Harper Hill Black Aluminum Frame Outdoor Sofa – $475.25. Clean lines. No fuss. Modern and functional. Would probably be best suited to an outdoor space that is mostly or often shaded, as this sofa is guaranteed to absorb heat, seeing as it’s none more black. Like it’s neutral color brethren of white and grey, you can make black the backdrop for a variety of colors and looks. But here, we’re sticking with the basics. Sold by Wal Mart.

The Pillows: Ensperta Pack of 2 Outdoor 18×18 Waterproof Olive Green Throw Pillow Covers – $19.99 + 2 Pack 18×18 Inserts – $20.99. Getting to the olive color of the pants feature in the Style Scenario this outdoor look is mimicking. This is the only truly green item in this lineup, but seeing as you’re creating this room outside, you’ll probably have some greenery around to compensate.

The Rug: Jill Zarin Anguilla 6′ x 9′ Outdoor Rug in Charcoal – $79.99. Another Wal Mart offering. This rug comes in multiple sizes and colors, but a 6 x 9 will give you plenty of room to work with. If your patio or deck is smaller, just make sure it’ll fit. Easy to clean and stain resistant.

The Coffee Table: Crosley Piermont Outdoor Metal Sectional Coffee Table – $102.99. Be bold and go square rather than rectangular on the coffee table. The matte black steel frame is powder coated for weather resistance. Slat top ads a little bit of visual pattern. Sold by Target.

The Planters: Veradek V-Resin Indoor/Outdoor Taper Planter 2-pack – $119.99. These will help you get some “living” green incorporated into the space. At 26″ high, and 13.75″ squared, they can create a statement that compliments this modern space. Putting tall plants in them, like grasses, large succulents, or even dwarf pines will create a cool look.

The Outdoor Ottoman(s): 2 Pack West Park Black Aluminum Outdoor Patio Ottoman – $102. Injecting some cream here just to lighten things up, plus these ottomans are a nice price. They will also easily double as seats. Using them as ottomans, of course means they’re going to get dirty. But at least the fabric “features Cushion Guard fabric to resist water, stains, and more.” Sold by Home Depot.

The Refreshment Cart: Umbra Bellwood Bar Cart – $135 ($160). Not technically an outdoor cart, but it’s lightweight, and the rubber wheels make it easily transported. Umbra is known for simple, clean, modern looks, and this bar cart fits that bill. A nice feature is that the trays are removeable, so you can take them from bar cart to table and back, if so needed.

The Chair: Modway Clearwater Teak Wood and Fabric Outdoor Armless Chair – $359.62. Could we call this an olivey-brown? I think so. Definitely a color you would see on military fatigues, or very close. This teakwood chair has removable cushions, so the frame can still be used if/when the original cushions don’t stand the test of time. Sold by Wal Mart.
