What are you going to wear? Sometimes it’s good to look at a few suggestions then add your own tweaks and ideas. That’s what these are for. Welcome to three style scenarios singing the praises of the medium gray suit. Not super dark charcoal. Not pale dove-gray either. A shade like one of these suits:

A gray that’s somewhere in-between. And in this series, you’ll find out just how far that investment can go.

The Versatile Medium Gray Suit 3 Ways: #3 – All dressed up with a tie

The Suit: Spier & Mackay Medium Gray Half Canvas Wool Suit – $378Best suit value in the business. Half canvas construction, nice wool fabric, lined in a breathable bemberg fabric, and available in two fits. A note that only your first suit, shoes, or sportcoat purchase returns for free with Spier. After that, you’re on the hook for a $15 return label.

The Shirt: TheTieBar Pinpoint Solid Light Blue Non-Iron Dress Shirt – $55Smooth pinpoint fabric. Perfect mid-spread collar that looks just as good without a tie as it does with. Perfect shade of light blue. That’s it, that’s the shirt you want.

The Tie: TheTieBar Pointed Tip Knit Black Tie – $25. Black knit ties are classy, versatile, and were favored by 007. And they look great with a light blue shirt. Dressed up, but not fussy. They walk that line perfectly. If you want a tie that’s a bit wider and a lot more expensive/higher quality, check out Kent Wang’s Italian made silk knit ties for $65.

The Watch: Dan Henry 1937 Mecha-Quartz Chronograph – $270Clean looks, interesting thanks to the chrono function, and feels great on the wrist. The Orient Bambino would work great here too.

The Bag: Fossil Haskell Leather Double Zip Briefcase – $250ish: Yes, Fossil. It does not look or feel like a mall-buy from 2004. Super soft, pebbled leather. Barely visible, small, subtle branding stamp near the base.

The Belt: Marino Ratchet Belt in Deep Charcoal – $18.99. As comfortable as a belt gets. Ratchet system leads to super precise, easy to adjust fit. And unlike a lot of other ratchet belts, which can look clunky, these look like a regular belt.

The Shoes: Grant Stone Cap Toe Oxford – $340. Beautifully made from great materials. Goodyear welted. The more affordable option: Nordstrom’s Dane cap toes check in at $99.95, and should do well for the guy who doesn’t walk around in black cap toes on a weekly basis.

The Socks: Bombas Men’s Merino Wool Dress Knee High Socks – $24. Merino wool helps keep your feet cool and comfortable.

All three in case you missed them:

The Versatile Medium Gray Suit 3 Ways: #2 – Tieless with a pocket square https://dappered.com/2021/08/the-versatile-medium-gray-suit-3-ways-2-tieless-with-a-pocket-square/ Wed, 11 Aug 2021 10:00:21 +0000 https://dappereddev.wpenginepowered.com/?p=219206 Heads up: Buying via our links results in us getting a commission (not always, but just about), which helps keep the lights on around here. The Versatile Medium Gray Suit 3 Ways: #2 – Tieless

The Suit: Suitsupply Mid Grey Italian Wool Half Canvas Wool Suit – $499. Nice fabrics, half canvas construction AND they ship and return for free. Know that their sleeve cuff buttons are functional. Which can be an expensive pain to have tailored. If that’s gonna be too much trouble for you, go with Spier since their sleeve buttons are non-functioning.

The Shirt: Ledbury The White Sutton Stretch Twill Custom Shirt – $135. The slightly lowered 2nd button on Ledbury shirts make them perfect for going tieless. The perfect collar for no-tie is either their mid-spread dress or hidden button down. The more affordable option: TheTieBar’s pinpoint white dress shirt for $55 does great here too.

The Pocket Square: Banana Republic Navy Silk Pocket Square – $30Usually you see white pocket squares with colorful borders. But we’ve got a solid, bright white shirt here. So let’s flip the script for a bit of contrast.

The Watch: Orient Ray Automatic – $170 on a Crown & Buckle Supreme Nato – $34Now’s a great time to wear a diver on a striped watch band. Just like skipping a tie, it helps dress the suit down a little. Going tieless also means you can add a bit “more” in other places. Like on your wrist. So instead of a super slim dress watch, maybe consider that chunkier diver you like to wear.

The Belt: Marino Ratchet Belt in Amber – $19.99. Yes. These again. Because they’re as comfortable as a belt gets. Ratchet system leads to super precise, easy to adjust fit. And unlike a lot of other ratchet belts, which can look clunky as heck, these look like a regular belt.

The Shoes: Spier & Mackay Balmoral Cap Toe Oxfords – $178. Best bang for the buck dress shoes on the market. Hitting that rare under $200 price point but still has nice leather, a Blake stiched sole, and a goes-with-everything shape. Full review here.

The Socks: Bombas Men’s Merino Wool Dress Knee High Socks – $24. Don’t be fooled by the pics on the Bombas website. These are true knee highs.

The Versatile Medium Gray Suit 3 Ways: #1 – Casual https://dappered.com/2021/08/the-versatile-medium-gray-suit-3-ways-1-casual/ Wed, 04 Aug 2021 10:00:07 +0000 https://dappereddev.wpenginepowered.com/?p=218962 Heads up: Buying via our links results in us getting a commission (not always, but just about), which helps keep the lights on around here. The Versatile Medium Gray Suit 3 Ways: #1 – Casual

The Suit: Spier & Mackay Medium Gray Half Canvas Wool Suit – $398Best suit value in the business. Half canvas construction, nice wool fabric, lined in a breathable bemberg fabric, and available in two fits. A note that only your first suit, shoes, or sportcoat purchase returns for free with Spier. After that, you’re on the hook for a return label ($14.95 for suits).

The Polo: Rhone Commuter Pique Hidden Button Down Collar Polo in Black – $98. A favorite. Yes you can wear a (smart) polo with a suit, no mater the season. Short sleeves when it’s warm, and then switch to a long sleeve polo sweater (or turtleneck if you wanna get fancy) when it’s cold. The rules have changed, now’s a great time to merge something more relaxed like a polo with something more dressed up like a suit. The hidden button down collar on the Rhone keeps your collar from curling or drifting over your lapels, even after a long day of wear.

The Sunglasses: Ray-Ban RB4175 Oversized Clubmaster – $163This pair of sunglasses from Ray Ban lean on their original clubmaster, but look more modern thanks to a sleeker frame and a larger overall size. These are a great option for guys with medium to larger faces who dwarf the smaller leaning original clubmaster. The more affordable option: Try Spier’s Model 4 (true clubmaster style) or even their Model 5 in brown/black if you have a larger head/face.

The Belt: Marino Ratchet Belt in “Deep Charcoal” – $21.99. It’s basically black. About as comfortable as a belt gets. Ratchet system leads to super precise, easy to adjust fit. And unlike a lot of other ratchet belts, which can look clunky, these look like a regular belt.

The Shoes: Allen Edmonds Park Avenue Oxford in Black – $425. Every guy needs a pair of classic, black oxfords. And nothing is more classic than the AE Park Avenue. The more affordable option: Nordstrom’s Dane cap toes check in at $99.95, and should do well for the guy who doesn’t wear black shoes as often as those who walk around in AE Park Avenues weekly.

The Watch: Dan Henry 1937 Mecha-Quartz Chronograph – $290. All sorts of class, feels great on the wrist, and the mechanical components in the chronograph really do feel great when you use them.

The Socks: Made in the USA Allen Edmonds Merino Cool Over the Calf Socks – $24. Basic, but thanks to the merino wool they’ll keep your feet much more comfortable than cotton ever could.
